The event will feature a discussion with British-Nigerian author Abi Daré, who will present her two acclaimed novels: The Girl with the Louding Voice (2020) and And So I Roar (2024, Penguin Books). Together, these powerful works tell the compelling story of a fourteen-year-old girl forced into marriage who, against all odds, dares to dream of becoming a teacher and dedicates herself to empowering other young girls facing similar injustices. The novels beautifully blend humour, resilience, and hope.
Abi Daré is an award-winning author whose debut novel, The Girl with the Louding Voice, won the Bath Novel Award in 2018 prior to publication and was shortlisted for several prestigious first-novel prizes, including the Desmond Elliott Prize.
Her second novel, And So I Roar, recently won the inaugural Climate Fiction Prize, a major international award recognising outstanding climate-themed fiction.
