At the latest since the 1970s and the first ecological movements, cinema has been interested in the relationship between man and nature. Films such as Deliverance (1972), Cast Away (2000), Grizzly Man (2005) or The Revenant (2015) raise the question of the confrontation between nature and civilisation by sending their protagonists into the desert, into the forest or onto deserted islands to explore how they cope. How are nature and man represented in these films? At a time when some would like to separate humanity from nature altogether, these films remind us of our origins and ultimately raise the question of our survival.
