Cycling is a recognised sport, an environmentally-friendly means of transport and a leisure activity. This conference will address the many issues at stake in terms of public policy, as well as legal and regulatory issues. After introductory remarks on the future of cycling by Fränk Schleck, national cycling coordinator for the Fédération du Sport Cycliste Luxembourgeois, the question of the place of cycling in public policy, particularly as regards urban and inter-urban mobility, will be presented by Frédéric Héran, transport economist and urban planner emeritus at the University of Lille. Regulatory issues, in particular traffic rules and infrastructure construction requirements, will be presented by Monique Goldschmit, President of the ProVelo.lu association. Georges Ravarani, Honorary Vice-President of the European Court of Human Rights, will then outline the responsibilities incurred by the use of bicycles in public spaces.

The event is organised by the Conférence Saint-Yves and the Conférence du Jeune Barreau de Luxembourg in partnership with the Fédération du Sport Cycliste Luxembourgeois, the ProVelo.lu association and the Bibliothèque nationale du Luxembourg.
