Lecture by Andrew Ferrone, organised in collaboration with the Fondation Jeunes Scientifiques Luxembourg
The climate crisis, loss of biodiversity and multiple environmental pressures are undeniable today, and the window of opportunity to address them is closing fast. But even in the face of the urgency to act and the need to meet the Sustainable Development Goals, recent international scientific reports show that there are integrated solutions. The conference explores these solutions, showing the synergies that need to be put in place to deal with multiple crises and the potential barriers that need to be removed.
Andrew Ferrone is a climate scientist by training and works primarily at the interface between climate science and policy. He is currently Deputy Director for Climate and Sustainable Development at the Luxembourg Ministry for the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity. He is also head of the Luxembourg delegation to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and coordinates the European Union’s team of negotiators on scientific issues under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Andrew obtained his doctorate from the Catholic University of Leuven, on the subject of aviation and climate change in Europe: from regional climate modelling to policy options.
