On May 5, 2026, the third event within the Advocacy Coalition — Defending Our Future Now @advocacy.coalition project will take place — the workshop “The Smartphone as Historian – Smartphones for Justice and Freedom.”
Organized by the Embassy of Germany in Luxembourg in cooperation with C2DH – Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History, the workshop is designed for students aged 16+ and will bring together around 40 participants at the University of Luxembourg.
The session will introduce the U-CORE research initiative, developed by researchers from Ukraine, Poland, Luxembourg, and the United Kingdom, focusing on documenting and preserving testimonies of war and displace ment following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Through a hands-on approach, students will explore how smartphones can be used as tools for documenting lived experiences, shaping collective memory, and supporting research. The workshop will also address key topics such as war, displacement, human rights, and the responsible use of digital tools — fostering empathy, critical thinking, and media literacy.
