At the crossroads of major societal and environmental trends, the ‘Sustainable and Engaged Future’ workshops aim to bring scientists and the general public closer together.

Inspired by the “cafés scientifiques” model, we invite participants to engage in open dialogue with experts, ask questions and express their opinions in six interactive public discussions. Each workshop is designed as an inclusive space where different points of view are welcomed and valued. We aim to strengthen the link between society and the University of Luxembourg by promoting direct interaction, openness, transparency and public engagement. Join us on this exciting journey to bring science closer to the community and work together towards a sustainable and engaged future.

Our second workshop is an inspiring public discussion with Professor Catherine Jones, Tom Becker and Alexander Skinner, all members of the Department of Geography and Spatial Planning at the University of Luxembourg, on the future of renewable energy systems and their impact on our cities and countryside. The discussion will be stimulated by a guided tour and an augmented reality discovery using our personalised app which allows you to discover imaginative urban solar installations in historic districts.

As we move towards renewable energy, we face challenges related to the visual, social and environmental impacts of these changes. These impacts are deeply linked to the socio-cultural values that citizens attach to places. Our aim is to tackle these challenges head on through open and inclusive dialogue. In our SolarZukunft Living Lab, we invite you to try out our application and share your thoughts on solar energy in the urban environment. This hands-on approach will engage residents and visitors in meaningful discussions about the social acceptance of solar panels in culturally important areas of Luxembourg City.
