🎃 Boo 👻

It’s official, the first edition of the book-club, namely the uni.lu LGBT+ students’ association book club, has now begun! We met to choose between the 4 books suggested and we came to the conclusion that the book we will read this month is Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas. Here are links to the Goodreads page and the A-Z/LLC website listing). The book is paranormal, fantasy, queer, trans representation, and Young Adult and (slight spoiler) has a character with ADHD which fits this month’s theme of ADHD and Halloween!

📖 Cemetery Boys summary:

Yadriel has summoned a ghost, and now he can’t get rid of him.

When his traditional Latinx family has problems accepting his gender, Yadriel becomes determined to prove himself a real brujo. With the help of his cousin and best friend Maritza, he performs the ritual himself, and then sets out to find the ghost of his murdered cousin and set it free.

However, the ghost he summons is actually Julian Diaz, the school’s resident bad boy, and Julian is not about to go quietly into death. He’s determined to find out what happened and tie up some loose ends before he leaves. Left with no choice, Yadriel agrees to help Julian, so that they can both get what they want. But the longer Yadriel spends with Julian, the less he wants to let him leave.

⚠ The trigger warnings list for the book is the following: misgendering, alluding to a dead name, homophobia, transphobia, discussion of racism, abuse, death, blood rituals, grief and mentions of gang violence.

📌 We will meet every last Tuesday of the month on the first floor of the Maison des Arts et des Etudiants, HOWEVER this month’s Tuesday is on the 31st which is not ideal so we will meet on Monday 30th of October this month at 18:00 (6pm)! See you there!

PS: you are welcome to come if you have not read the book in full or if you haven’t read it at all, to spend an evening with us!
