Akiko Nakayama’s work takes the classical medium of painting to unexpected and decidedly post-modern places. With a method she has dubbed “Alive Painting”, the Japanese artist brings her experimental music to life using bright, brightly colored liquids, which combine and fade away, intended to represent natural growth, change and the life cycle of all things on Earth. Familiar shapes emerge before blending into each other and taking on new characteristics – a living art that mirrors the artist’s abstract music.
The artist depicts the energy of movement through installations, photos and performances. In her field research about art on sand, she has been collaborating with University’s geologist N. Kuhlmann.
As sounds mutate and change textures, liquids mimic them, and Nakayama creates a fascinating flow of ever-changing organic movement and color.
